The DRUID PhD Winter 2003 Conference
Hotel Comwell Rebild Bakker
Aalborg, Denmark
The DRUID PhD winter 2003 conference will take place January 16-18, 2003 at Hotel Comwell Rebild Bakker, near Aalborg in North Jutland, Denmark.
We plan for around 40-50 participants. The conference is organized by the DRUID Academy for doctoral education and training, see further: http://www.druid.dk/academy/. The conference is open for DRUID members as well as for PhD students coming from the international network partners of DRUID, including those connected to the ETIC PhD programme. DRUID is the node for an open international network - new partners are always of interest. Do not hesitate to apply even if you have not been in contact with DRUID previously.
The main emphasis is on PhD presentations, but DRUID seniors are most welcome to participate with papers and/or as discussants. There will be a handful of keynote speakers. At the moment the programme includes the following:
- Ed Steinmueller, SPRU, University of Sussex, UK: "The Role of Technical Standards in Co-ordinating the Division of Labour in Complex System Industries".
- Stefano Breschi, CESPRI, Bocconi University, Italy: "Mobility and Social Networks: Localised Knowledge Spillovers Revisited"
- Mammo Muchie, Middlesex University, London, UK: "Old Wine in New Bottles: A Critical Exploration of the UN's Conceptions and Mechanisms for Transfer of Environmentally Sound Technologies to Industry"
The specification of titles etc. will be currently updated at the DRUID homepage. This year the conference is not confined to a specific theme.
We give priority to:
Please send a title and a synopsis (5-10 lines) to Jeanette Hvarregaard at Monday December 2, 2003 at the latest. Include also the date at which you will be able to deliver the paper - not later than January 6, 2003. The papers sent to Jeanette should - if at all possible - be drafted in a pdf version. You will receive an answer no later than Wednesday December 4, 2002.
- Papers or to draft of chapters for theses by PhD students
- Papers explicitly aiming at publication in a journal by seniors
The conference is scheduled for Thursday January 16 at 15.00 to Saturday January 18 at 15.00. The DRUID Academy can pay for the hotel and food from Thursday January 16 after lunch until Saturday January 18, lunch included. However, as our resources for travel grants are limited, we strongly encourage you to seek local finance for your travel costs. In case you cannot find local finance you can apply for support by the DRUID Academy when you submit your abstract. Local co-finance would be helpful in the latter case. Given the rather high costs of domestic air transport in Denmark, we definitely encourage you to use the train, which stops rather close to the conference hotel (at Skoerping 30 km south of Aalborg).
Best regards
Bent Dalum and Jeanette Hvarregaard, email: winter2003@druid.dk
